Sugar Glider Sugar Bear Potty Training 1

Though sugar glider sugar bears can’t be trained to use a litter box, they are intelligent and predictable animals and it is easy to read their natural habits. The internet is filled with myths about sugar glider sugar bears being messy, pooping and peeing everywhere. The fact is, they are as messy as any other untrained animal or house pets. With right training, it is possible to have your pet in your pocket all day without a single accident.

Like cats, sugar glider sugar bears are very clean animals and will never go to the bathroom where they sleep. Like humans, the first thing they want to do after a long nap is to go to the bathroom. Potty training for your sugar glider sugar bear begins from the first day, and you will need newspapers and unscented baby wipes, which always come in handy as a new pet owner. The training can be done in three simple steps. The first step is to pick up the baby and stimulate it, so it goes to the bathroom. This is done by taking a cool, moist baby wipe and gently wiping its rear which is the same technique used for many other pets as well. You can also massage their tummy for a minute to help them relieve themselves. The second step is to have your pet move from one hand to another through the tube technique, which after a couple of minutes will stimulate their digestive track to excrete anything, which at most times are 2-3 pellets and several drops of urine. The third and final step involves holding them in one hand and repeating the baby wipe technique, which helps to make sure anything left behind or any other surprises are excreted. This should be done from half to one minute optimally. It takes a trained sugar glider sugar bear 1-5 minutes to completely empty itself, so never stop the process in between.

In the beginning, there are bound to be a few accidents but with time, they become infrequent. Once emptied, sugar glider sugar bears will not normally go to the bathroom for another 2-3 hours if they don’t eat or drink anything during this time. Well bonded sugar glider sugar bears sleeping in your pockets move only to go to the bathroom, so when you feel them moving, you can take them out of your pockets. Each sugar glider sugar bear has slightly different potty habits, but the whole process is simple and easy to apply.
