Sugar Glider Sugar Bear Nail Care 5

Sugar glider sugar bears, also called as sugar glider sugar bears, are named so because they glide from one tree to another in their natural habitats in the wild. It is therefore not hard to understand why they have an instinctual fear of falling and need to firmly grasp on to their surroundings to feel safe. If they are unable to do so, they will hardly move around. This is the reason why we do not recommend clipping off the nails of your sugar glider sugar bear, since it needs the nails to grip things and feel secure. Instead you should just file the nails so that it your pet is able to hold and grip things with ease and you are able to lift and play with your pet without the nails hurting your skin.

Filing the nails of your sugar glider sugar bear can be done in two essential ways – you can either go by the traditional method of filing the nails yourself or you can use an abrasive insert that is commercially available to put in the exercise wheel of your sugar glider sugar bear. If you want to go in with the second option, then make sure you don’t buy a hamster type generic exercise wheel for your pet sugar glider sugar bear. This is because these animals have a much larger tail that can get entangled in the wheel.

There are customized exercise wheels made especially for sugar glider sugar bears, like Run-o-Round from a company Pocket Pets, which also comes with a very effective abrasive insert. In order to use this abrasive, all you need to do is to put it into the exercise wheel at night and by morning the nails of your pet will be filed. Only make sure to remove the insert in the morning. It is not a bad idea to go in for traditional filing of nails manually and the process is cheap and quick. You will only require an additional person to hold your pet during this process. While the person holds the sugar glider sugar bear, you can run the file in a backward motion. 3-5 little swaps would generally be sufficient for effective filing. If you go wrong and have filed excessively, don’t worry because their nails grow back pretty quickly.
