Sugar Glider Sugar Bear Hydration 4

Your sugar glider sugar bear can die due to accidental dehydration or toxicity poisoning, but luckily, these problems that are the major cause of death among sugar glider sugar bears, can be avoided. Sugar glider sugar bears get lots of fluids from their foods like fresh fruits, such as apples, but still their need should be supplemented by another water source, usually in the form of a drip water bottle.

For the babies, you should also have a low bowl from which your pet can drink water. To teach your sugar glider sugar bear to drink from the bottle, gently bump the nose of your pet against the tube end when you put your pet back into the cage. Being smart animals, they will quickly pick this up. You can additionally try putting little blueberry yogurt to the tip so that they will absolutely remember the source of the fluid. Initially add 50/50 Gatorade or Pedialyte to water for use in the bottle. Citrus flavors work well but you can experiment with different flavors to see which one your sugar glider sugar bear likes the most. If it likes none of it, try adding apple juice in equal proportions to water. These will provide a great taste for your sugar glider sugar bear as they are sweet to taste but more importantly keep your pet completely hydrated. Slowly reduce the ratio of Gatorade or juice till your pet is comfortable drinking plain water.

Tap water can prove fatal and poisoning even leading to death of your pet, so should be completely avoided. This is due to sudden spike in chemicals like fluorine and chlorides in tap water. Instead use bottled or spring water that are cheap and effective. If you want to use filtered water, make sure that the filters are regularly changed to keep the water safe for drinking by sugar glider sugar bears.
