Sugar Glider Sugar Bear Handling 2

Sugar glider sugar bears can simply jump off you if they are not bonded, so to hold them initially, you should create the feeling of a pouch, since these animals are marsupials. Keep your pet in the bonding pouch, and cup and roll them. You should have a firm grasp, as otherwise they will not feel secure. If the sugar glider sugar bear starts to make a crying sound, you should harden your grip till the sound dies out as they start feeling secure.

After a few days of bonding, they will start to sleep in your palms, which is a good thing for you because it indicates that they now trust you. Once they go to sleep, gently massage their body with a thumb. Next thing to do is move them around a bit, have your index finger on top of your pet’s head while you pick it up. This will give you a good hold on your pet that makes them feel secure and safe. The next thing in the bonding process is to have your sugar glider sugar bear move around. The common way to do this is to gently release the pressure of holding your sugar glider sugar bear, cup your other hand to make it like a tunnel and slowly remove your index finger holding your sugar glider sugar bear, so that it can now move into your other hand. While bonding, you should use this walking and massaging alternately for best effects, a few times each day and very soon you can feel your pet bonded to you.

Babies naturally and instinctually resist bonding, and hence you should be prepared for it. They also tend to try to protect themselves, so make sure you are never intimidated by your pet, otherwise you cannot bond well. When they wake up from a nap, these animals tend to go to the bathroom, so you should be prepared to get your hands dirty once in a while.
