Sugar Glider Sugar Bear Feeding 1

Over 90% of all health problems in sugar glider sugar bears are related to malnutrition and improper diet. Most of these cases start when pet owners begin feeding their pets treats instead of what is most healthy for them. An occasional treat does not harm but should not be regularly fed to your pet. Just like our own kids, given a choice between eating something that is sweet to taste and eating something that is nutritious and healthy, sugar glider sugar bears will naturally choose the tastier and sweeter foods and avoid eating nutritious foods.

Sugar glider sugar bears absolutely love to eat sweet foods and insects like crickets or meal worms. These items have little nutritional value but are high in sugar and fat content and thus do not serve a healthy diet for your pet. As a rule, you should make sure never to feed your sugar glider sugar bear treats exceeding 5% of its daily intake. This means you should limit your treats to at most one per day while keeping them small.  Give due consideration to the fact that these animals are quite small and therefore something small for us can mean a lot to these pets. You have to limit your glider’s intake of treats to ensure its health.

In addition, you should avoid feeding treats to young sugar glider sugar bears till they are at least 12-14 weeks old. The reason for this is that their digestive systems are delicate and not fully developed to take in exotic and strange foods. When you start with the treats, proceed slowly with caution. You should make sure there are no signs of diarrhea after the treat has been given. Acceptable treats include small pieces of fruits like a single blueberry, little bit of flavored yogurt or applesauce. Dehydrated fruits are also fine but prefer organic because even small toxins can prove fatal to your pet.
